KraftMaid Designer Kate Thompson, CKD

Day 2 is in full swing at House Beautiful‘s Kitchen Of The Year event at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, and the KraftMaid® cabinetry is standing out as a favorite among visitors to the kitchen.  KraftMaid® designer Kate Thompson CKD is on site in the city, having worked alongside the kitchen’s famed designer, Mick De Giulio, on the cabinetry selection.

We asked readers at home to send Kate their design questions, and here’s what was on their minds.

What is the finish and door style of the cabinetry in Kitchen Of The Year?

The Kitchen Of The Year kitchen uses KraftMaid’s Dove White on Maple cabinetry. Also, the Sedona door shows a great transitional door design. Like Dove White, Sedona is a door that will not tire easily and will remain relevant within the transitional style.

What is the countertop and the backsplash in the Kitchen Of The Year made of?

Backsplash tile is Davlin tile by Ann Sacks. It is a gorgeous glass tile that has white god leaf in between two pieces of glass. It provides a soft elegant touch to the kitchen. The countertop is by Caesarstone in Swan Lake. It is from the Supremo collection and is a soft white that is a great soft complement to KraftMaid’s Dove White.

Who are the appliances by and how do they work in conjunction w the cabinetry?

The appliances are Whirlpool, and they have a great modern look to that fits into the kitchen nicely. Their new White Ice finish is a perfect blend to Dove White.

How does the white cabinetry in the Kitchen Of The Year design speak to current trends in  kitchens?

White is the hottest trend in kitchens today, and I love this because white is a classic color that will never go out of style. Kitchens trends today are fresh and clean. Recessed doors with crisp moldings are a look that will be long-lasting for years to come.

What is one of your favorite highlights of the kitchen aside from the KraftMaid® cabinetry?

The kitchen hardware is fantastic, adding a great level of bling while at the same time being realistic and functional. I think of it like wearing your favorite piece of jewelry every day. “Accessorizing” is important and is the final piece that completes the look.

How does KraftMaid® help the homeowner through his or her own design process?

KraftMaid® offers great tools on the website to start the planning process (Style Quiz and MyStyle Studio). Although our retailers offer design assistance, it is extremely important for a consumer to do their homework prior to the design process. This information will make it easier for the designer to help create a personalized space. Design is about the personal style of the homeowner as well as how it functions. When the space works flawlessly for a consumer, it makes the design that much better.
